What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Ultrasound examination of the kidneys. Comparison- Correlated with CT
images dating 05/22/2016 and 0-20 08/20/2011.
HISTORY- Q6102 CONGENITAL MULTIPLE RENAL CYSTS- RAD, 0000- 7677.
FINDINGS- The right kidney measures 4.8 cm x 11.7 cm. The left kidney
measures 5.6 cm x 12 cm. There is a 9 mm simple cyst in the mid to upper
left kidney. No large calculus or hydronephrosis is seen in either
kidney. Preserved blood flow in both kidneys is confirmed with Doppler
imaging. We obtained limited images through the urinary bladder. No
focal bladder wall thickening is identified. However, there is a
polypoid filling defect with mixed cystic and solid components in the
anterior aspect of the urinary bladder. It measures up to 18 mm x 20 mm
x 13 mm.. I see no definite internal blood flow. This may be some
adherent debris. However, neoplasm cannot be excluded. I have carefully
reviewed the recent CT of the pelvis (dated 05/22/2016). I see no
corresponding mass on the CT images. This would favor debris or
neoplasm. Cystoscopy suggested for followup. The calculated prevoid
bladder volume was 174 mL. The bladder emptied to completion.
Impression
1. Simple cyst in the left kidney.
2. Complex cystic and solid mass in the urinary bladder. Differential
discussed above. No corresponding mass is seen on review of the CT dated
05/22/2016. Suggest cystoscopy for followup.
A CT-IVU with a cystoscopy is needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist,i can understand your concern.
You don't need to worry about the simple kidney(renal) cyst.
No further test or treatment is needed for that.
As CT scan is more accurate than an ultrasound scan, the reports are conflicting.
CT scan shows an ovarian cyst, with no bladder mass.
According to you,an ovarian cyst was seen on CT scan.
The bladder complex mass or cyst, needs further evaluation.
There are two tests, that are done routinely,in such a situation.
1. CECT (contrast CT) or CT-IVU.
2. cystoscopy after that,with a biopsy,if a mass is seen.
As you've not written about tests done so far, kindly check the following :
1. urine routine and culture.
2. blood routine,creatinine,RBS,LFT,and platelets.
If you send all the reports,an expert opinion can be given.
Don't worry about the debris. It only means, there's some particles in the bladder.
This may be due to pus flakes, which will show up in the urine test.
This will be confirmed further,on doing the cystoscopy.
Wish you well.
Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
