Posted on Wed, 31 May 2017
Question: My father age is 73 years. An ultrasound study show that
Kidneys: Both kidneys are small in size. Normal in shape and position. Cortical echo appears raised (Grade-II). Cortico-medullary differentiation is maintained at places and fuzzy at places Pelvi-calyceal systems appear normal. No focal lesions noted. Right Kidney measures 68x34mms; Lest Kidney measures 73x39 mms.
and Pathology report show that
Hemoglobin- 7.6
Urea- 83
Creatine- 4.64
K+ - 6
Is it critical
Why hemoglobin reduce low within a month. He feel no weakness, no pain in stomach and other part of body. After viewing his lab report, he is telling that I observed weakness. But no symptom of dullness, weakness nor any other problems. Creatinine, Urea goes high and Hemoglobin reduce to low within a month. Kindly suggest me what to do?

Brief Answer:
Kidney disease see Nephrologist urgent

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

At the outset, your father seems to have long standing kidney disease.
The kidney function seems falling with rising creatinine, potassium and urea. It is also evident by reducing Hemoglobin. Kidneys produce a hormone called Erythropoietin which helps producing hemoglobin.
You should not wait for symptoms get investigated in detail with GFR, Nuclear scan. We should understand why is the corticomedullary diff lost some areas.
So do not wait more you should certainly seek Nephrologist opinion.
