Suggest Treatment For Diabetic Nephropathy Patient Currently On Dialysis
Hi Sir,my uncle has been diagnosed wid Diabetic nephropathy and is currently on dialysis....2times a week.before dialysis his creatinine value was 8.9.the blood haemoglobin level had also dropped and he needed blood transfusion(twice)..and now is being given erythropoietin injections too.I would like to know what is the prognosis and how can we procceed with his treatment further.Thank you.
hi welcome to healthcaremagic your uncle seems to have End stage renal disease. Presently he can be managed with dialysis. prognosis is generally bad and it is difficult to predict the longevity in these patients. You really need to take care of hemoglobin, calcium and electrolyte levels. The only permanent treatment for end stage renal disease is renal transplantation. If it cannot be done for any reason, he should continue getting dialysis as long as he lives. General health measures like cutting salt, maintaining good urine output and weight is extremely important to prevent life threatening complications. Heart diseases are important causes of death in these patients and hence frequent cardiac check ups are required . Hope i am clear
