What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Nov 2017
Question: Hello. I have been having leg ache/pain/tightness in my right calf, the back of my knee and up into the thigh area. I had an ultrasound so no blood clot. An x-ray just showed minimal osteoarthritis. I can't figure out why it's not going away. It's been several weeks now, since the beginning of September. I've had problems with RLS primarily in my right leg and have had Endovenous Laser procedure in both legs. I've been applying Diclofenac Sodium topical and wearing compression socks on the right leg, but by nighttime, I'm really uncomfortable.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to electrolyte imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that somehow you have developed an electrolyte imbalance and that could be triggering spasms of the calf muscle. I would insist you to take juicy fruits like citrus fruits. They contain plenty of potassium which should help in proper functioning of the muscles and in reduction of the cramps. You also need to increase total fluid (water) intake and to take plenty of ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replenish the lost fluids and salts.

Application of hot compress or use of compression stockings should provide relief. However, I would not insist on long term use of the compression stockings. The skin absorption of diclofenac ointment is poor and so I doubt if that would help.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
