What Does My Ultrasound Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 May 2016
Question: Hi doctor, I am 24 years old and have just taken my first ultrasound. Found out that I was more than 7 weeks pregnant but the scan showed no embryo nor yolk sac (see attached ultrasound results). What does this mean and what should be my next steps if I am not keen on pushing thru with the pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Most likely a missed abortion

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
In my opinion this is a missed abortion and this pregnancy has no life and thus will not continue beyond this as far as growth is concerned.
Taking duphaston and then getting ultrasound after 1 weeks is an option with hope but very less chances and in case you are keen on continuing the pregnancy then it is worth a try.
But most likely it will need termination via medicines which will clear the cavity of the products but in some cases there can be need of surgical curettage to take out all the products out of the cavity.
All the best

Hi Doctor, thank you for the very quick revert and for the helpful advise. I just want to know if there are meds or pills you can prescribe which can help expel the products from my system?

Brief Answer:
Medicines are easily available on prescription

Detailed Answer:
Yes there are medicines easily available and also simple to take and are quite effective too.
But these are prescription drugs available as MTP kit so first wait for a week and then visit your gynaecologist for confirmation of missed abortion via ultrasound and then get a prescription.
Take care

Hi Doc, noted on this. Planning to do another scan next week to confirm this. Would a transvaginal scan be any different in terms of accuracy versus a transabdominal scan?
