default
Posted on Wed, 3 Dec 2014
Question: My wife underwent Preventive health check-up and as per the investigations she is infected with Synus and there are deviations in ESR also. I am attaching the reports herewith, please suggest the way forward.
Xray observation: POLYPOIDAL OPACITY IS SEEN IN THE LEFT MAXILLARY SINUS. RIGHT MAKILLARY AND BILATERAL FRONTAL SINUSES ARE CLEAR. THERE IS MINIMAL NASAL SEPTUM DEVIATION TOWARDS RIGHT SIDE. NO OBVIOUS TURBINATE HYPERTROPHY SEEN. NO DESTRUCTIVE BONY LESION OR MASS NOTED. FINDINGS ARE SUGGESTIVE OF - LEFT MAXILLARY POLYP; - MINIMAL DNS TOWARDS RIGHT SIDE.

ESR: H 17 mm/1hr. (LIMIT: 0-12)

I need further details.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
She has Nasal Polyposis leading to Sinusitis.
ESR is a non specific marker of inflammation. Can be raised in numerous conditions. Her ESR is slightly high. Nothing to worry in its regard.
Now I need a few more details to help you better:
1. Does she has any recurrent allergic rhinitis that is sneezing, running nose?
2. Any snoring while sleeping?
3. Any breathing issues?
4. Any Headaches?
5. Any cough ?
6. Any problems in Urine report or Kidney function tests?

Brief Answer:
Follow as advised.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Mr XXXXXXX since her polyp is asymptomatic there is no need to any treatment.
I would advise her to do steam inhalation at least 3 times a day and make it a habit and routine activity of her life.
In future if she ever develops rhinitis, snoring , breathing issues, medicines would be indicated accordingly at that time.
Nasal Polyps can be found in lot of people. If they are asymptomatic , no treatment is indicated
Her Headache might be a part of this Sinus problem, she can do steam inhalation which should help her.
I hope my answer helps you.
If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
