What Does Pain At Stitch Site After Cholecystectomy Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I had a closed cholecystectomy done on April 24th. The incision on top (Closest to gallbladder) still has a big stitch under the skin that is painful at times. How long should this last? What would be the signs it is infected or problematic? I had issues with internal stitches becoming infected after an open appendectomy 11 years ago.

Brief Answer:
You could attach clear images for my examination if you wish

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. i understand your cause for concern, but stitches usually take a few weeks to completely heal and either dissolve themselves or dry enough to be manually removed by a nurse or doctor.

If you are worried about any sutures, please take clear images of them and attach them to our discussion for my examination.

Signs of an infected suture would be the following:

+Swelling
+Redness
+Fluid or blood or pus oozing out
+Pain
+Difficulty in moving the region
+Fever

I hope you find my response helpful. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
