What Does Persistent Rash On Breasts Despite Being On Treatment For Scabies Indicate?

Question: I have had a rash that started on my right breast (on the outside) and then also patches on the left breast, at my right hip bone, and at the top of my buttocks. A dermatologist briefly looked and said "let's treat you for scabies". That was March 31. I followed the treatment to the letter, washed everything. I am still having daily flare-ups, especially on my breasts. My husband has had no symptoms or itching. I don't think it was scabies. The itching is really affecting my life, and I hate to take Allegra all the time.
Brief Answer:
several causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I agree with you that it is unlikely scabies if it has not resolved. Other possibilities are allergic reaction to something you have encountered or eczema. Both of those should clear with steroid cream but you may need something stronger that what you can buy over the counter. Is it possible for you to add a photo of the rash so that I can get a better sense of what you have? I suggest returning to the dermatologist for further evaluation.
You may also want to consider any personal products you use on your skin or evaluation of any new clothing you have been wearing.
Regards,

The steroid is prescription strength, and it helps some. How long is it safe to use that? I was under the impression it should only be used short term.
Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
Steroid cream can be used for two weeks then off one week then repeated for two more weeks. This cycle can be done 3-4 times, but if the rash is still persistent then a follow up with the dermatologist is definitely indicated. If this is something like eczema, then it may recur periodically requiring retreatment with steroid.
I hope it has resolved for you soon, let me know if you have other questions.
