What Does Presence Of Blood In Sputum Of A Child Indicate?
Question: My daughter XXXXXX is 7 years old.On 15.05.2017,blood stain was found in sputam in the early morning.It was found only once.since then,It was not found again.In evening,a red patch was found just below the left nostril.her stool appeared blakish in that day but from the next day, colour of stool turned yellow. No fever is there.No bleeding from nose occured. Her weight is 25 kg.She is 4ft 3inch in height. I consulted my peditrician on 27.05.2017.He Checked thoroughly and prescribed Maxtra thrice in a day.Again he advised us to make a blood report on TC,DC,Hb,BT,CT. We have made the test but result has not been received. Regarding the red patch,He checked it very well and checked her whole body if any such patch could be found.
My questions are:
1.What may be the cause of blood stain and red patch?
2. Why such blood test has been ordered?Is it a routine check up or any other complication ,the doctor is suspecting?

2. The blood tests would help in excluding bacterial infection as a possible cause. In case of a bacterial infection the WBC count would be raised along with relative neutrophilia. In such a case treatment with antibiotics might be needed. A normal blood count will indicate the possibility of a viral infection where you need not worry.
Steam inhalation should provide relief. Continue Maxtra for a few more days.
