What Does Redness On Penis Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, I am the one who has genital herpes and has been consulting you these couple of months.

Here's another incident that I experienced lately and having sleepless nights.

Four days ago, I had sex with my GF with condoms. But I don't wear condoms while having oral sex because my GF hates the taste. I kind of felt some itchness on the skin of the penis, but not that much.

The next day, she told me that while taking a nap (in the afternoon), she experienced a headache and sore throat and some coughing. But when she woke up for a while, it all went away suddenly, and she was even wondering what it was. The symtoms were like having a cold, but it all vanished suddenly.

And then when I met her at night and had dinner together, she said she just noticed she has canker sore on her tongue. Since I was in a panic mode, I gave her Valtrex just for precaution. Her sore was gone within 48 hours.

I went to an urologist (who knows I have HSV) the next day after having sex with her to check out whether my itchy feeling that I felt the day before is herpes related. He told me there's a part where it is reddened, but his diagnosis was balanoposthitis rather than herpes. He said the redness stems from having oral sex.

Do you think his diagnosis is correct and I don't have to be so panicky?

I am so worried...

More info:

the timeframe between

1. the time we had oral sex & the headache, sore throat & coughing is
approximately 16 hours

2. the time we had oral sex & when she noticed she had canker sore is
approximately 24 hours.

She has symtoms of asthma from early this year, and taking medicine to alleviate the phlegm from her windpipe, which periodically making her heart rate rise to the 140's, which she needs to consult with her doctor tomorrow to solve this problem in itself. She also has atopic dermatitis from childhood, which it seems to be mild right now.

Hello again.

Yes, I remember talking to you few days ago. On reviewing the salient points which I have mustered from the history are:

-Your herpes outbreaks are scare, the last one was way back in 2007.
-You take valtrex even if you have the slightest of doubts and you have been taking it even when you have lower back ache (?related to sciatica), which is not warranted.
-Lately you consulted the doctor for itchy feeling on penile skin. Do you still have itchiness? Do you still have the redness? I would like you to upload a picture of it.

Most likely your girlfriend had canker sores, even though you gave her valtrex. Canker sores can heal on there own in 2-3 days.

Canker sores and oral herpes are easy to differentiate based on where they occur. While canker sores form on loose, non-keratinized tissues of the mouth e.g tongue, the inside lining of the cheeks or lips, the floor of the mouth; oral herpes lesions are usually presents on firmly attached, keratinized oral tissues e.g hard palate and gingival mucosa.

As I said before, the only way you can transmit herpes to her is through intimate sexual contact (unprotected genital to genital OR unprotected oral sex/peno-oral sex). "Therefore unprotected peno-oral sex can definitely transmit herpes virus to her". This is because viral shedding happens from time to time, from the genital skin, even without a clinical episode(asymptomatic shedding). So, there is a small but genuine chance that you may pass on the virus when you have unprotected sex with her(genital or oral), even when you don't have a clinical episode of herpes.

A clinical episode of herpes, however, does increase the risk of transmission.

I would suggest you to always have protected sex with her.

First of all, her canker sore was present on the tip of her tongue.

The itchiness on the skin of my penis is gone. Since I have very bad eyesight,
it is difficult for me to visually check the area. The doctor visually checked out
my penis and diagnosed as not herpes.I also took Valtrex the day before, and two days before having sex with her
since I couldn't sleep well these past few weeks and was afraid that my immune system may decline and provoke herpes viruses to shed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Your girlfriend most likely had a canker sore. That's what I indicated in my early reply, judging from the location.

Herpes usually presents with burning or pain associated with eruption of multiple fluid filled vesicles which quickly rupture to leave behind painful erosions. Itching is not a symptom of herpes. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the recent itchiness was due to herpes. Moreover, it did'nt look like herpes clinically when you got it visually checked.

My advice to you would be to practice safe sex, ALWAYS!! be it oral or vaginal. Valtrex can be taken to offset an attack as and when required.

You can get a blood test for herpes for your girlfriend. That would be step further to put your mind at ease.

She doesn't know I have herpes.
I am quite sure if she knows about it,
she will never gonna have sex with me.

That is the main dilemma that I have right now...

One another question. Does herpes reside in siemens?
I kind of remember you said no, but when I googled it
there were some sites where they say it does.

I hope the siemen is safe from HSV.

I mean the sperm, if semen and sperm aren't the same thing.

If sperm also contain HSV, does it mean I can't produce kids?

Hi.

HSV is present in seminal fluid but not in sperm cells.

You can definitely father kids. For that you need to have unprotected sex and there would be a slight but genuine risk of transmitting HSV to your partner.

Update:

1. Seems like she's having severe headache's from time to time.
2. She suddenly feels fatigued in the afternoon even after a full night's sleep.
3. Her heart rate periodically rises close to 140/min. level, especially while asleep,
resulting in waking up in short breath.
When she consulted these above symptoms (except no.1) to her docto who's treating her asthmatic symptoms, he said maybe there maybe some problem in her thyroid glands.

She's taking lots of medicine.
1. for her asthma
2. anti-depressants and sleeping pills for her to sleep.
without it, she can't sleep.
3. pain relievers to alleviate headaches, etc.

Are any of these herpes related?
I certainly hope not...

She also experiences lower stomach cramps (yesterday too)
She says it may be from constipation, but any pain she feels,
I worries & hurts me emotionally.

I guess I'm having a mild depression myself...

another update:

Just this morning, she was just telling me she has severe headache.
But just now, she text me that suddenly she is experiencing severe back ache as well as stomach ache.

From your diagnosis last month, lower back pain is not herpes related.
How about lower stomach aches?

Right now, all her pains seems to me like maybe I am the one to blame...

I await for your sound advice yet again!

Herpes genitalis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Certainly headache, fatigue and rapid heart rate are not related to herpes. In fact herpes, specially if it is recurrent does'nt bother much in term of symptoms except for just mild burning sensation and discomfort. Systemic symptoms like these are never a feature of herpes genitalis.

I understand that you are emotionally attached with her and it is normal to be careful for such a person.

Backache is not a feature of herpes neither is stomach ache. One possibility that I can think for sudden onset stomach ache is gastritis. You can ask her to take an oral antacid (e.g Tab pantoprazole or Tab. rabeprazole, once daily for a few days) or may be syp Digene 2 tsf three times a day.

Thank you very much Dr. Kakkar for your sound advice as usual.

Your words just made my day.

She told me this severe stomach ache, which was on the left side of the lower abdomen, as well as her lower back at the same time, lasted only for 15 minutes.

However, she told me she had never experienced this before.

I know you're may not be the specialist in this area, but what do you think it is?
I am quite sure it is not gastritis, for I assume that occurs in your upper stomach.

One other question:
I heard there are lots of phamacies in XXXXXXX which offers Valtrex and Viagra for a fraction of the retail price in the US. If you know any of them which is trustworthy, please give me their contact info.

I have never met you in person, but I come to feel like you're my house doctor!

Thank you very much.

BTW, I don't know why, but since my PC is in high contrast mode, it seems to be impossible to rate you after closing the session. The only time I rated your diagnosis is when I made an international call to Healthcaremagic and told them you are a wonderful doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thanks a lot. Yes I am not the right specialist to ask for abdominal pain. However, lower left abdominal and back pain, specially sudden in onset and lasting just 15 minutes is suggestive of colicky pain (one possibility could be due to a stone/calculi in the urinary tract). This needs to be investigated.

Yes I can certainly help you with valtrex. You can mail me the requirements on my email ID: YYYY@YYYY . Not sure if an XXXXXXX pharmacy would supply you valtrex in US. Let me know your mailing address and requirements. I will see what I can do.

Since I am a long sufferer of kidney stones, and since her back pain was all over her back rather than on either side of the kidney, it seems kidney or gall stones is unlikely. The pain resided on the whole area of her lower back + lower left side of her abdomen.

I just want to know that these symptomes I mentioned through our conversation, recurrent or initial, aren't herpes related so I can sleep peacefully at night.

Lastly, here is one honest question that I have been willing to ask you (other than the main subject, I mean)

Here I am divulging a VERY private information which normally is exclusive to one's doctor, who is also obliged to keep my information a secret.

From conversing with you for a few months, and since you are a doctor as well, I trust you as if you are actually one of my doctors.

Just last week, I watched "60 Minutes", a documentary program on CBS in the US informing LOTS of so called database companies gather or even acquire information all through the internet and build stack of profiles of each individual for selling them as business.

Does Healthcaremagic also fit this description? They know my real name in full, my credit card info (which is linked to my physical address), meaning they can make a profile out of all the info I have dished out here.

I have seriously contemplated on unsubscribing this service after knowing these almost criminal deeds that these companies are sharing with others for monetary compensation, but here I am, still divulging all my deepest worries...

I would like you to assure me that my info is completely safe here so I can continue to subscribe with Healthcaremagic, and I can disclose all my information to you too.

Is it possible for you to disclose your identity to me first? If you prefer doing that on an email, please email me to YYYY@YYYY .

I am looking forward to your reply.

Is her asthmatic symptoms not herpes related?
She started having these symptoms from ealy this year.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Back pain and stomach ache are not at all herpes related.

Your identity is completely safe on healthcaremagic and trustworthy. Your transactions on the site are completely safe too. The site has an SSL certificate. So you need not worry about your credit card information getting to somebody else. Moreover the conversation between you and me are absolutely private between the two of us.

I am not aware of any such database being made for monetory reasons. This does'nt seem to be true. I don't think you should worry about because you are not doing anything illegal according to the law of the land. You are consulting a doctor through this website. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I guess my explanation was incomplete.

Please take a look at this 60 Minutes segment that I told you about.
You will know what I am talking about.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Cty7ctycsI

You said our conversation is completely private.
Does this mean the whole conversation between us will not be
used publicly, or accessible to other subscibers at Healthcaremagic.
If that is actually the case, I am a very happy man.

Lastly, since I will be sending you all my info in order to receive
your assistance in Valtrex & Viagra if possible, I would like us
to be in a more "acquainted" phase, not just a virtual kind
where you only know their nickname.

If you're okay with it, I would like to regard you as my
own doctor "who happens to reside in India".

Of course, all my consultations will be through Healthcaremagic,
the only difference being that we actually know each other's identity.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Ok thanks. I will go through this link later in the day.

Healthcaremagic does'n share the name of the patient publicly even though they may have the conversation between you and me, accessible to other users of this site. No one can identify you just by the conversation that we had. Suppose your name is XXXXXXX it won't appear on any of the site content as XXXXXXX they usually do XXXXXX (Daniel) to your name and that's it, your identity is safe. The same thing they would do to your email Id e.g YYYY@YYYY . Of course the email Id which you used to register at this site will be in there databases but they don't share it with a third party.
