What Does The EEG Report Indicate?
Question: My son aged about 13 yrs has been detected by EEG report that he has epileptic problem. Basically he used to be silent for couple of min as reported by school teacher. This was happening for last 6 month. We thought this was due to weakness. Nevertheless, now he is under treatment and doctor has advised oxitol in increasing order(dose). Please tell me my son will recover from this permanently. Regards S H XXXXXXX , XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Get investigated as advised
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Mri of brain with epilepsy protocol is required.
Absence seizures at this age needs to be evaluated for juvenile myoclonic epilepsy or juvenile absence epilepsy as the treatment in these cases is different and prolonged.
Is there any history of seizures in childhood before age 6 years?
Any other illness, mental retardation or brain injury?
You need to visit to a neurologist for optimal evaluation and treatment advices.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
