What Does The MRI Results Indicate?
Question: Hi,
I have a question. If someone experiences an aura that is persistent, but will have period of auras with colored circles or lights that are there flashing or flicker that are brief. What can cause this if it is not a migraine condition? The MRI shows punctate foci of increased flair signal of subcortical white matter of bilateral occipital lobes.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Probable multiple Sclerosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. In my opinion, those symptoms are aura-like symptoms. White matter hyper intense lesions with such visual symptoms are more consistent with Multiple Sclerosis. You may need further diagnostic tests ( cerebrospinal fluid examination, evoked potentials) to confirm or rule out diagnosis, so I suggest you to consult a Neurologist an to discus problems mentioned above. Hope this answers your question. If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

Ok thank you.
After I researched the symptoms, occipital lobe epilepsy keeps coming up as well as MS.
I definitely want further tests done, but is this a possibility to have occipital partial seizures with these symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Epilepsy is a possibility in this case.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for asking again. There are two more possibilities related to your symptoms:
1. Epilepsy with visual symptoms
2. Migraine variant (prolonged aura without heavy headaches or nausea).
You should have tests for MS and Epilepsy (EEG) to diagnose the underlying disease. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
