What Does The Absence Of Periods After Fallopian Ring Surgery Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 May 2015
Question: I am 44 years old, recently delivered a child January 4, 2015. March 5th, I had a lap-assisted Fallopian ring surgery, and my period ended the day before surgery, on March 4th. I have not had a period since, prompting me to wonder if I am pregnant again, although I have no symptoms. My mother started menopause at 40, if this is relevant. Following surgery, my husband and I resumed sex within two weeks. My blood pressure has also been high, and my dr. Is trying to regulate it with benicar and bystolic. Systolic ranges from 140s to 160s, while diastolic and pulse are well within normal range. Is it possible that Bp is influencing my cycle or vice versa?( also meaning a possible ectopic pregnancy?) I have no vaginal bleeding, pain, etc.

Brief Answer:
Delay is due to breast feeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
After a childbirth, if you are breast feeding then it is normal not to have periods. Since you were having periods just before the surgery, pregnancy is ruled out.
Blood pressure changes can alter the amount of blood flow during the periods but it cannot delay the periods.
It is better to rule out pregnancy after a urine test at home.
You will resume your normal periods after you stop breast feeding.
