Posted on Tue, 6 Jan 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,
In the ECG report that I got done during my General health checkup recently, it is written that - "Low QRS Amplitudes".
They did not see any other abnormalities.
Please let me know what does this mean and is there anything to be worried about.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Doesn't seem to be anything.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Generally, we get low voltage complexes in obese patients, patients with thick chest wall and large breast especially in women. In all these situations its of no consequence.

However, it can occur in some disease states such as pericardial effusion or water around heart, very dilated heart or lung disease but there will be symptoms such as breathing difficulty and chest X-ray is expected to be abnormal.

If low voltage is only finding and you are not having any symptoms then I don't think there is room for worry or further evaluation. If any symptoms are there then its better to have echocardiogram done.

Hello doctor,
Thanks for your response.
I got my chest X-ray as well done as part of the general health check up. It is absolutely normal. And I do not have any breathing difficulty.
Yes, I am over weight, as I had a baby last year, and my weight is getting to normal slowly. As you said, this might be the reason for low voltage complexes.
