Question: an MRI (for a tear in the rotator cuff) was done, and conclusions said:
1. There is a supraspinatus tendinopathy with an insertional interstitial tear in the anterior tendon. Interstitial tearing is also seen posteriorly.Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor tendons are otherwise intact. Rotator cuff muscles are unremarkable. A trace amont of hyperintense materil is see in the subacromial subdeltoid bursa suggesting mild inflammation. Long head of biceps tendon reaches its glenoid attachment. No displaced labral tear is seen. Glenohumeral joint is maintained. No significant joint effusion is seen. Acromion has a concave undersurface. Bones demonstrate somewhat heterogeneous marrow signal, which may be a treated cellularity and seen with obesity, smoking and hematologic disorders. Clinical Correlation is advised. Under "conclusion," it says Heterogeneous marrow signal (as above) - clinical correlation is advised. *** My concern is this statement about "Heterogenous Marrow SIgnal." *** SIckened and Worried

Brief Answer:
Can be a normal variation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A heterogenous bone marrow signal can be a harmless finding due to mild ischemic changes in the marrow. These can be age related degenerative changes in the marrow or fat infiltration due to obesity. This is not a worrisome finding. Getting a bone marrow aspiration done will help in ruling out any pathology.
I hope this answers your query.

Is a bone marrow aspiration a blood test? Because my husband had to get his MRI and Broad the paperwork as well and had a blood test done. We are waiting for the results.

Brief Answer:
No. It is a different test after a blood test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Bone marrow aspiration is not a blood test. In case any abnormality comes in the blood test then a bone marrow aspiration may be needed to rule out any problem. It is best to wait for blood test results now.
Hope my answer is helpful.
