Question: Hi,
My baby boy born on 11 Sept this year, weight is 3.12 kg at the time of Birth. Born in normal delivery. Thanks

The baby is currently breastfeeding.

Since jaundice in New born is very common, so went to bilirubin test whose reading is below.

Bilirubin = 13
Direct = 1.2
Indirect = 11.8

Can you suggest what is the real meaning of these test?
Do I need to worry with this test?
Or do I need to conduct some more test?

Brief Answer:
Physiological jaundice.

Detailed Answer:
Any of the following features characterizes pathological jaundice:

Clinical jaundice appearing in the first 24 hours or greater than 14 days of life.
Increases in the level of total bilirubin by more than 8.5 μmol/l (0.5 mg/dL) per hour or (85 μmol/l) 5 mg/dL per 24 hours.
Total bilirubin more than 331.5 μmol/l (19.5 mg/dL) (hyperbilirubinemia).
Direct bilirubin more than 34 μmol/l (2.0 mg/dL).

Wait for couple of days repeat the levels if still increased levels then you'll have to investigate further.
I hope it'll come down in few days. It appears to be physiological and need not worry much.
Expose the child to good sun light in the mornings before 8.30 am.

Any query do follow up,
Take care.

Thanks,
Exposing the baby to sunlight, is it enough if the baby is covered or need to be naked?
Or just face and legs uncovered are enough.?
Will one hour of sunlight be enough or more then that?

Thanks in advance
