What Does The Following Chest X-ray Result Indicate?

flattening of the hemidiaphragms. There is no focal infiltrate, pleural
effusion, or pneumothorax. The bony thorax is unremarkable.
Impression: No acute cardiopulmonary process. Lung hyperinflation.
slight increased expansion, size of the lungs
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Hyperinflation of the lungs means that excess expansion/inflation of the lungs.
The x ray notes that the slight or minimal hyperinflation, this means that it is not significant as yet.
The diaphragms are flattened or pushed down because of the slight increase in size of the lungs.
The most common reasons for hyperinflated lungs are COPD which is usually related to smoking (chronic bronchitis, emphysema), asthma, cystic fibrosis.
NO focal infiltrate- no localized/no significant distinct lesion seen, this is good
No pleural effusion (no fluid just outside the lungs), no pneumonthorax (air in the pleural cavity- space just outside the lung)
The bony thorax- bones in the chest wall- are normal
Impression- no acute cardipulmonary process- no new significant conditions seen
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I guess the other question is. I had a bad chest and head cold over summer and never got rid of the cough. This couldn't be the cause of the hyperinflation of lungs, it is just early signs that I will have copd because I smoke?
yes, it is indicative of early COPD
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the delayed reply
Yes, the changes are indicative of early COPD.
Though smoking cessation can be difficult, it would be best to stop if possible to prevent further changes and problems
