What Does The Following Health Check Up Report Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Relevant info suggested.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.
I understand your concern.
Significant lab abnormalities are evident on the health check report. They are
1.Early iron deficiency anemia(Get Hb% checked, you missed it in your tests).
2.Mild Dyslipidemia(abnormal blood lipid levels)
3.Severe Vit D deficiency.
4.Abnormal differential blood counts.
5.Grossly elevated serum lipase-Possible pancreatic damage.
The rest of the tests are well within the normal limits for your age and sex.
The relevant answers in order are as follows.
1.Get Hb%(hemoglobin) checked. Start Oral Iron supplementation for 3-6 months based on Hb% value.
2.This can be corrected with diet and exercise alone.Consume Oatmeal daily for breakfast and dinner for 3-6 months.Regular physical exercise for 20min/day is equally important. This does not require any medication at the moment.
3.Vit D supplementation is mandated in your case.I generally prescribe my patients with Oral tablets of Shelcal or Tayo K.Please check this with your doctor if he can prescribe the same to you.Repeat test after 3 months of drug use.
4.Abnormal differential blood counts are secondary to XXXXXXX and Vit D deficiency. They will normalize once these deficiencies are corrected.Repeat counts after 2 months.
5.Elevated lipase indicates pancreatic damage either in the past or present.CT scan abdomen is strongly needed to evaluate the architecture of pancreas in all such cases.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

After evaluating my condition. No symptoms visible. No past history of pancreas. On Lipase, I was informed that it can be ignored as there are no supporting symptoms.
Further, I was advised exercise and vitamin supplements.
Please let me know, if I should go for another opinion?
Isolated Lipase elevation-a risk factor for future pancreatic disease
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.
I understand your concern.
I apologize for the delayed response.
I have researched quite a bit into this concept.
Yes, I do agree with your doctor -An elevated lipase should not be equated with evidence for pancreatitis if the amylase is normal. You need NOT go for another opinion.
But elevated lipase confers risk of acquiring pancreatic damage in near future.Hence, I will suggest you ways to prevent them
In the presence of elevated lipase(without symptoms), You may be at risk for pancreatitis if you are:
1.Extremely overweight (obese).
2.Have high triglyceride levels in your blood(you have 292mg%).
3.Drink excess alcohol.
4.Have been diagnosed with gall bladder stones (which may block the flow of secretions from the pancreas to the intestines)-Please note even gall stones can remain silent in most cases unless they produce symptoms. An Ultrasound abdomen can best pick up silent gallstones.Hence, I advise you the same now(instead of a CT scan as earlier suggested).
5.Or have a family history of pancreatitis.
Things you can do to avoid/mitigate hyperlipasemia:
1.Avoiding alcohol IF ANY.
2.Follow a diet that is low in fat, low in red meat, and high in fiber. This will correct hypertriglyceridemia, which serves as a risk factor for future pancreatitis.
3.Few herbal remedies/supplements(like GNC) are known to cause elevated lipase levels, better to avoid them.
6.Screen for Diabetes semiannually via Hb1ac or blood sugar levels.
7.Keep yourself well hydrated. Drink two to three quarts of fluid every 24 hours.
8.Exercise and Vitamin(only allopathic vitamins) as advised by your doctor.
9.Reduce weight.Keep BMI under 25.This should the ultimate goal to prevent all medical issues.
10.Have oatmeal for breakfast every day.Eat an apple or pomegranate a day. These have lipid lowering functions.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
