Question: Does a sputum culture gram stain indicating moderate white blood cells seen, few gram positive cocci, few gram negative bacilli, few gram positive bacilli suggest the need for identifying the actual bacteria through further culture testing?

Hello,

as you can see on the lower part of the report ("Result") only normal flora was identified, which means that there is no pathogen or at least no pathogen was in this particular sample. If you're worried about pneumonia then an X-ray should help but there is no reason to do more tests.

Having pneumonia after this long and without fever is very doubtful. Prolonged cough is common after respiratory tract infections. Cough may last for up to 2 months. If your doctor has excluded pneumonia with clinical examination then I don't see any reason to worry about that. Cough suppressants are usually prescribed in such cases.
