Brief Answer: DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my suggestion: First of all, left ovarian cyst is VERY SMALL (29 x 17 mm) and SIMPLE type. It may be FUNCTIONAL cyst which has 3 types - Follicular cyst (MOST common), Corpus luteum cyst (appears after ovulation) and Thecal cyst. Most of ovarian cysts are BENIGN (around 95%) in nature. Second thing, management OR next plan of action depends on symptoms and disturbance of regular period cycle. 1) If her period is IRREGULAR or DELAYED, then some additional investigations should be done. These include hormone test like LH/ FSH, Progesterone assay, Thyroid profile, blood prolactin and sugar test (PPBS), DHEAS etc. Proper treatment can be made according to test result. Combined hormonal pill and supportive medication are usually given in such case. 2) If she feels abdominal pain quite often, then some painkiller can be given along with antacid for short term purpose. She can take a warm bath or apply heating pad or hot water bottle to the lower abdomen near the ovaries. It can relax tense muscles and help to relieve cramping, lessen discomfort & stimulate circulation and healing in the ovaries. 3) At this stage, she DOESN'T NEED any kind of SURGERY for small simple cyst. So, you WOULDN'T be worried about this. Surgery in the term of removal of the ovarian cyst is indicated when a) there is persistent COMPLEX cyst, b) Cyst causes persistent symptoms, c) Simple cyst is MORE THAN 7 to 10 cm in size, d) Women are near menopause. Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query. Wish her good health and take care yourself.
