Brief Answer:
D&C is necessary

Detailed Answer:

Hello dear,
welcome to healthcare magic.
I understand your concern.

In my opinion usually menopause is reached at 45 to 50 years of age.Physiological causes for delayed menopause is good nutrition and better health.

Pathological causes for delayed menopause is fibroids and endometrial abnormalities.

As you are 53 years madam I suggest you to get an dilatation and curettage (D&C) or endometrial biopsy done.
D&C is a simple out patient procedure wherein the endometrium is scraped out and the tissue is sent for histopathological examination to rule out endometrial abnormalities like malignancy.

Ultrasound showing endometrium of 7 mm before the periods is normal .But the cause of periods at this age is to be ruled out by D&C.

Dont worry.

Hope this satisfies your query.
