Question: I ovulated on 4th August and my LMP is July 20th. My doctor advised me for Beta HCG test. Result is 72. Can I consider it as good result for pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Not good for viable pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Normal beta-HCG levels in early weeks (after conception or ovulation) are as follows:
1) 0-1 week > 0-50 mIU/ml
2) 1-2 weeks > 40-300 mIU/ ml
3) 3-4 weeks > 500-6000 mIU/ ml and so on (Peak level on 8 weeks).

Generally, beta-HCG level will double every 30-72 hrs and your level is quite low. Though anything above 25 mIU/ ml is considered positive for pregnancy in most of the cases.

A low hCG level may indicate following thing:

1) Wrong calculation of ovulation date 2) Ectopic pregnancy 3) Possible miscarriage or blighted ovum

Please consult with your gynecologist regarding this to perform TVS and clear your confusion. Take suggestive measures accordingly.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Yesterday night again I did Beta HCG test where i completed 48 hours from the first test. In the first test as I have already told the result was 72. But in the second test the result is 63.1. My concern is that my doctor said that the result should get doubled, but for me it got decreased. How do I interpret this? Please help me out in this regard...

Brief Answer:
Blighted ovum likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The decrease in HCG levels after 48 hours are likely to be due to a blighted ovum or a chemical pregnancy. You are likely to have a spontaneous bleeding in next 2 weeks.
Do monitor your levels after 1 week or get an ultrasound scan done to confirm this.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Are there any chances of getting confirmed pregnancy even after the levels are fluctuating like increasing and decreasing
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (25 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Very less.

Detailed Answer:
The chances of having a viable pregnancy are less than 10% and delayed conception can cause a viable pregnancy in your case. An ultrasound scan will help in confirmation.
Regards.
