What Does This EBV Ab VCA Test Result Indicate?
EBV Ab VCA, IgG 40.1 High (positive >21.9)--This test is high but not extremely high
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG 529.0 High (positive >21.9)--This test seems extremely high.
Interpretation EBV-IgM EA(D)-IgG Vca-IgG EBNA-IgG
EBV Seronegative - - - -
Early phase + - - -
Acute Primary + +or- + -
Convalenscence/Past - +or- + +
reactivation +or- + + +
I am curious what these results actually mean.....do I have mono or just a re-occurance of Epstein Barr? Are those the same things? I work in a public K-12 school and am concerned about infecting students if I am contagious in any way. What can I do, besides rest, that might help me feel better? Are there any medicines or homeopathy remedies than might help? Any information you could provide would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
The results supports re-occurence or reactivation of EBV
Detailed Answer:
Respected Madam,
I assume that your VCA-IgM/ EA-D, IgG negative, I came to this interpretation !
In fact, EBV Ab VCA, IgG positivity indicates early primary infection and EBNA, IgG positivity indicates reactivation of virus or past infection. Therefore comes this interpretation as you have some of the clinical features!
Usually, rising VCA-IgG levels indicate an active EBV infection, while falling concentrations tend to indicate a recent EBV infection that is resolving. Therefore serial values are required. More points about this: If a person has positive VCA-IgG and EA-D IgG tests, then it is highly likely that he has a current or recent EBV infection. f the VCA-IgM is negative but VCA-IgG and an EBNA antibody are positive, then it is likely that the person tested had a previous EBV infection.
Coming to the second portion of your question,
There are some medicines/aerosoles that might be used to reduce clinical symptoms and infectivity; please see your clinician for some prescription but you also needs a oro-nasal mask and avoid kissing/other close contacts ... I think bed rest is better for you till you have symptoms possibly at least 1 week!
regards,
Should I be concerned that my symptoms of fatigue and sore throat have been lingering for the past 4-5 weeks? My own physician did not seem to think I should worry but I am not usually sick for this long and I am concerned.
Also, am I contagious and should I still be going to work?
Again, thanks for your advice.
Only serial VCA-IgG levels are important here!
Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the misunderstanding if any! Actually if VCA-IgG levels are rising, your infection is active whereas lowering levels indicate resolving infection!
EBV infection, at least in some cases, is just like this; it may trouble you for weeks and occasionally for life too! Clinical symptoms are also variable.
you need clinical follow-ups and for the time being you should restrict yourself to indoors at least for 1 week or till the symptoms are there; your clinician /infectious disease specialist must guide you accordingly!
