My HPV report shows I am positive for HPV 44. What all precaution should I take ? Is there any reason to worry on this. Rest of the reports are okay.

Thanks/XXXX

Brief Answer:
Genital HPV type 44 is an STD and using a condom during sex is a good preca

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern

HPV 44 is one of the low risk HPV types that is associated wih genital condyloma acuminata/ genital warts. It is an STD.

I suppose you dont have any visible warts? If you do or develop visible genital warts in future, you must get them removed. Also since you may pass the infection to your sexual partner(s) therefore it would be advisable to use a condom at all times (better if its possible to avoid sex altogether) even though a condom only reduces the risk of transmission of infection and does not eliminate it entirely.
Apart from getting rid of visible genital warts, genital HPV infection with low risk HPV types e.g HPV 44 is usually taken care of by body's own immunity and most of he patients are ultimately free of HPV infection after 1-2 years.
