What Does This MRI Report Indicate?
Question: Hi,
I had an MRI of my back and it showed partially imaged bilateral renal pelviectases or hydronephrosis versus bilateral extrarenal pelvises. What does this mean and should I consult a medical Dr. I'm 69 years old and have had kidney stones and cronic low back pain.
There is also a 11mm cyst in the pole of the left kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Your MRI report is suggestive of obstruction to the flow of urine out of the kidney causing fluid logging in the kidney. This might be the cause of lower back pain as well. I suggest you to approach a Urologist with this MRI report. A small stent known as DJ stent can be placed to relieve this obstruction.
11mm cyst in the pole of the kidney is a normal finding in patients above 60 years of age, no further intervention is required for it. Most often it is benign and causes no harm.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
