What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

Question: My MRI report which was for the lumbar mentions disc buldging & height loss at 4 of the discs in this area.

I fully expected this but my question is the report also mentions "marrow signal shows a loss of fatty marrow which may be related to reactivation. "Please correlate with patient history".

I am a male, 60 years old. Many years with low back pain, and possible future CLL as I was told I am at the earliest stage.

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have gone through MRI spine and its signal shows loss of fatty marrow.

Ot can be due to normal variation, some reactivation or other bone marrow disease like leukemia.

So it is very important to in details about signal alteration and its type and location.

Moreover you also have early CLL so it may be due to that also.

So please send me your MRI report with detail history.

For which symptoms you advised MRI.
Whether you have only low back pain or any other symptoms.

You have not given me an e-mail to be able to send MRI report to you. The MRI was strictly done to see about my low back problems and the radiologist happened to notice loss of fatty marrow. He mentions it may be related to reactivation and to please correlate biochemically

Your back pain and other complains are due to degenerative changes.

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

First of all significant findings are degenerative changes. Your back pain, leg pain and all other complains are due to degenerative changes only.

Your marrow findings has no relation with that.

In MRI marrow can easily visualize and many pathology can be identified.

But loss of fatty marrow only without other findings suggest reactivation process only.
Cellular component increase and it leads to this type of pictures. In anemia this types of pictures are seen. So nothing to worry much about that. Just regularly check your complete blood count.
