Question: hello Doctor,

My uncle is suffering with Back pain from past few months. But it has got suddenly severe from last 15 days. He does not have any other medical problems apart from this.
I am attaching his latest MRI report. Please suggest if there is something serious and what precautions and treatment he should consider now.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Conservative treatment is required at present.

Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
I have read the details posted by you and the MRI Report attached along with.
In my opinion your uncle should be treated non- operatively ( Conservatively)at present since there is no major disc prolapse and spinal canal diameter is good.
I would start Pain killers, muscle relaxants , physiotherapy and temporary lumbar belt. No bed rest is required at present. Exercises for strengthening back muscles should be started ASAP.
The changes described in MRI are quite common and improve over a period of time.
Please feel free to ask any further question.
Thanks
