What Does This MRI Report Showing Lesions Of Thyroid Gland Indicate?

Question: Please help me! The Mri I am sending is 2 yrs old. I've lived with chronic migraines for 23 years. It seems NOTHING I've tr has helped. I couldn't tell you the last time I awakened with no headache, neck or shoulder pain:/

I have no idea what this Mri means as my neurologist simply stated I had degenerative arthritis and that was it! After thoroughly reading & re-reading it looks more than just a tad of arthritis to me?

I have had a horrible headache for the last 3 wks that would not ease off. Went to md - she said I had sinusitis & gave me augmentin & Flonase. Didn't touch it. Called back & was told she's try to "figure out what type of dr" to send me to???

Left side of neck ALWAYS hurts, sends pain as well as tingling sensation down left arm through every finger (wrist & shoulder blade hurt as well).

When I awoke this morning I notiv my headache had eased tremendously BUT left side of neck, arm, wrist & hand hurt so bad it feels like it's been broken in a million pieces:( I cannot straighten my arm or or bend it without severe pain. However, if I hold it above my head, the pain eases a bit.

My questions are:

Do I ha arthritis ONLY?

Am I just having migraines or is there more to it?

What does my Mri mean & where do I go from here?

What do I do about this tremendous amount of pain? I am currently taking XXXXXXX 350 mg & it's not touching the pain.

Brief Answer:
There are other problems than arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. My comments are as follows:

1. There is a lesion of thyroid gland found incidentally ( by chance) on your last cervical MRI. This needs evaluation. If it wasn't done yet, there is still need to evaluate and examine thyroid gland and for this you need to consult a Endocrinologist.

2. There are findings on your MRI that support degenerative cervical column disease. But there seems to be no exact correlation between your symptoms and MRI findings, since your symptoms are severe. Perhaps the MRI is too old and doesn't explain your current set of symptoms. So in my opinion there is need for another cervical and brain ( in order to check for/ rule out other causes of your headache rather than Migraine) MRI imaging.

Treatment options should be discussed after thyroid evaluation and new MRI findings.

I would be glad to answer all the listed questions. However it would be better if we can have a new MRI, analyse and answer your queries. So I suggest you to discuss with your treating Doctor above mentioned possibilities.

Hope this helped. If you have further questions feel free to ask.

My treating dr is the same dr who failed to mention the nodule. I found this myself:/ fortunately, it was benign and I had my right lobe removed. Do you realize out of 5 doctors you were the FIRST to read the entire report?

I plan on going to an urgent care 1st thing in the am. I am not satisfied with my md for obvious reasons. Nor the neurologist who simply stated I have degenerative arthritis but never mentioned thyroid!

Can you explain to me what this old Mri is saying so that I can understand?

I do not understand where my pain is coming from or why it is going down my arm?

I plan on finding a new dr and truly hope an Mri will be ordered by urgent care if possible.

Bless you for noticing the thyroid issue. I was extremely worried when I saw that! I'm thankful to say it's been 5 wks since surgery & I'm finally starting to feel like myself minus the head/neck/shoulder issue.

Again,

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
More possible cervical herniated disc disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again. I'm glad to hear there was only a benign nodule of thyroid.

Old MRI says there are different levels cervical discs in first stages of herniation, not causing important pressure on nerves and medula and not narrowing significantly cervical canal or foramina. In other words you should have only mild symptoms, according to old MRI.

Another MRI is essential in this moment to correlate severity of symptoms with the damage degree of neural structures.

Probably changes found by old MRI have advanced. Discuss about getting a New MRI.

Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
