What Does This Biopsy Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, my biopsy report states: USG guided biopsy from gall bladder mass is tiny and shows fibrocollagenous tissue, inadequate for opinion.

What does it imply? Please guide me.
This test was for second time. First time, FNAC was done and it was reported that sample is inadequate for opinion.

From these two reports can we conclude that there is no case of cancer in gallblader?

should I go for a biopsy for third time?

What are alternative options?

Brief Answer:
Biopsy reports are not conclusive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Your biopsy report and previous FNAC report both are inconclusive. There is no enough material in biopsy to give opinion. It doesn't mean there is no malignancy.
You should go for repeat biopsy.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

Thanks a lot Dr. XXXXXXX Sanghvi for your response. I will be happy if you will answer the following queries of mine:

1. You have replied that "There is no enough material in biopsy to give opinion', then who is responsible for that, whether the technicians who taken the sample of the lab person? or it is due to technological lapse, as it was happened twice and treatment is yet to start.

2. Is there any test option available which can address t the issues of 'absence of enough material in the sample for opinion? Please suggest.

3. What are treatment options available for carcinoma gall bladder, as is expected in case of mine.

Brief Answer:
Treatment depends on stage of cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

I will try to give you all answers.

There are many reasons for insufficient material in biopsy and FNAC.
Technical error is the most common cause.
Some technological lapse is also there. However it happens some times but we can not blame someone for that. You should go for repeat biopsy. No alternative for exact histopathological diagnosis.

Treatment of gall bladder cancer depends on type, stage and grade of cancer.

In early stage of cancer with disease limited to gall bladder, surgical removal of gall bladder followed by chemotherapy is the treatment of choice.

In advanced stage surgery may not helpful and chemotherapy or radiotherapy is the available options depending on type.

Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
