Question: I just got the results of my bloodwork that was performed a week ago and I am concerned about some of the results: they are as follows:

Creatinine is 1.05 which is listed as in the high range
Albumin is 2.6 which is listed as in the high range
Globulin is 1.6 which is listed in the low range.
I am very concerned about these results. Can you please tell me what would cause something like this to happen. I have hypertension which is under control on medication. I do take a lot of medication for various health problems but I've never had a kidney problem in the past.

Brief Answer:
creatinine is normal, albumin is low

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You have not mentioned but i hope you do not have any underlying diabetes or hypertension because these can lead to increase in serum creatinine level. use of pain killers also causes increase serum creatinine values- Now coming to your concerns

'Creatinine is 1.05 which is listed as in the high range '
Normal range of serum creatinine would be anywhere from 0.6 mg to 1.2 mg and your lab values are perfectly normal. Creatinine values also depend on your muscle mass and your non veg (meat) intake. more muscular people or intake of meat in 24hrs preceding blood testing can raise the result.

'Albumin is 2.6 which is listed as in the high range'

I think this value is of lot of concern. this shows that either you are malnourished or have underlying loss of proteins from the kidneys or decrease production from the liver. I Think you should meet your doctor and undergo detailed examination to find the cause for this

"Globulin is 1.6 which is listed in the low range.'

again i don't think this is of any concern

best wishes

I forgot to mention that I take Celebrex 200 mg every day because of spinal stenosis and a herniated disc. Also, I have hypertension but it is improved with medication. I also take Neurontin 300 mg, 3 x a day for nerve pain generated from the spinal stenosis. Can any of these medications raise the Creatinine levels?

I am 70 years old and weight 162 pounds. I am a female.

Thank you for answering my follow/up question.

Brief Answer:
nsaids can raise creatinine

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Pain medicines like celebrex ( celecoxib ) can cause rise of serum creatinine levels. if a patient has past h/o kidney disease it should be avoided. Neurontin is safe and does not have implications on kidney though it may cause sleepiness.

More body weight also causes stress to the kidney.

try to reduce your body weight
