Question: I recently received my blood work back. All of my liver measures (ALT, bilirumin, etc) were within normal range. However, my AST was mildly elevated at 59.

My doctor has asked me to come back in a number of months but should I be seriously concerned for the next 3 months. This will drive me crazy.

Brief Answer:
Please do not worry. It is only mildly raised.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HealthcareMagic,

Please do not worry. It is only mildly raised.
An elevated AST may be due to several factors.

It may be due to a viral infection affecting the liver.
Due to some drugs like antibiotics, statins or some painkillers you may have taken.
Due to alcohol (if at all consume).
Due to a condition called NASH-non alcoholic steato hepatitis--deposit of fat in the liver.

Since most of the causes are reversible, your doctor has rightly asked you to come back after 3 months when s/he will repeat the test.

If still abnormal, then it may need to take action.
Meanwhile, you can avoid any of those above-mentioned medications during this period.

Later you should get an abdominal sonography done to rule out fatty liver, gall stones and your blood lipid profile too.

Best wishes
Regards
