What Does This Blood Test Regarding Abdominal Pain And Bloating Indicate?
I recently received my blood work results.
Amylase, Serum - 100 (reference range: 31-124 U/L)
Lipase, Serum - 43 (reference range: 0-59 U/L)
It looks like my Amylase is high normal. Is it clinically significant?
I am having abdominal pain, bloating/gas that is why doctor ordered this test.
Do I need to be concerned?
Thanks

No need to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.
I have gone through your query.
Your amylase is high level side but it is within normal limit. No need to concern.
Lipase is within normal limits.
At this moment you need not take any medication.
For bloating/gas I would start Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole 30 minutes before breakfast for 2 weeks. This is over the counter medication.
If you will feel better with this medication you can continue for 2 weeks.
If not, then I would suggest you ultrasound scan and upper gastro endoscopy to rule out other possibilities of abdominal pain like ulcer, gall stones and liver problems.
Since you are having abdominal pain doctor ordered to these test to rule out pancreatic problems like pancreatitis.
Avoid alcohol If you consume.Alcohol can increase enzyme levels.
Avoid spicy,oily,heavy food.
Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any queries I will be happy to help you.
Thank you.
