What Does This Ultrasound Report For Diarrhea And Stomach Discomfort Indicate?
Please get investigated for suspected obstruction to passage of bile
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. The liver is an organ which generates and channels the bile and helps in digestion. The bile is transported through intrahepatic biliary radicals to the gall bladder and from there it goes in to the common bile duct and in to the small bowel.
2. In your ultrasound scan report it is seen that the biliary radicals and common bile duct are slightly prominent. This is possible when there is mild obstruction along the course of the distal common bile duct.
3. It is important to know if your serum bilirubin levels are high and if laboratory reports suggest jaundice which is a consequence of mechanical obstruction to the flow of bile. There is also mention that in an earlier scan the duct measured 8 mm and presently it is 9 mm in size.
4. To know and confirm any suspected obstruction it is important to evaluate by doing a MRI abdomen and MRCP which is a specific MRI exam to evaluate the biliary tree. Should there be any cause of biliary obstruction that might be causing your symptoms then it will be detected and can be treated on time.
5. The findings of ultrasound scan abdomen reveal that the liver is showing fatty changes. There are many reasons to have a fatty liver and include the following.
Increased intake of fatty foods and alcohol
Over weight and obese patients.
Those who have fatty liver running in family members.
Any liver condition that is changing appearance of liver.
Mild fatty liver can also be there in many normal people
Please proceed with investigations as suggested to confirm any condition involving the biliary tree that might be causing your right upper abdomen.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
