Question: Hi I am 47 years old female and having my period since 14 days. Last time I had my periods on 12/08/15 . I was checked for fibroid and the ultrasound showed a mildly enlarged uterus (8.2 x 8.1 x 6.8) and two intramural fibroids (37 x 31 mm and 23 x 18 mm). Endometrium is not separately identified, both ovaries are normal, both adnexae are clear and no fluid is seen in POD.
TSH - 7.991
25-Hydroxy Vitamin D - 4.4 ng/ml
Hb - 11.59
S.FSH - 30.87
All other tests are normal. The doctor has prescribed Tranostat 500mg, Thyronorm 50mg, Levogen - 1 daily, Shelcal HD12 - daily
Can you please advice regarding the course of treatment to be followed and upto how much time can the surgery be avoided?

Brief Answer:
Better to remove fibroids by laparoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns about frequent periods.

Following is my reply:

1) Fibroids seem to be the problem for your bleeding. It is better to get fibroids removed by laparoscopic surgery to avoid further bleeding.

2) Medicines may not be of much help to you in solving these fibroids ang these are likely to increase further with your age.

3) You will also need to continue thyroid medicines thyronorm and check TSH again after a month as hypothyroidism is another reason for such bleeding.

4) It is better to undergo laparoscopic surgery than to avoid it. Meanwhile continue medicines as per your doctor's advice.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya
