What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Question: If I get a cortisone shot of Celestone in my Left CMC joint fir inflammation that showed up on an ultrasound, will that impact my MRI done about 7-8 days later. I have several working diagnoses- tendonitis, strain, sprain but the ultrasound showed this inflammation but not all the tissues they need to see. But it hurts in the meantime.

Brief Answer:
May show up as excess joint fluid

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Steroid shot will reduce the inflammation but the fluid component of the injection may show up on the MRI simulating excess joint fluid as in arthritis.

But the regular arthritic changes expected to be seen on an MRI wouldn't get altered because for a steroid to act could take months.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

So it seems most prudent to get the MRI then the shot if warranted. I sprained my thumb/wrist trying to push myself a few feet in a wheelchair. I guess I forgot to let go of the wheelchair and it pulled my wrist too far. But that was 3 months ago. And I can not pick up anything with my wrist. Just the doc and PA visits are frustrating. They said let it rest and it will heal but it is not. Then they said stretch it but I can not. Finally I went back a 5th time and said, hey, let's image this. So the doc helping with my hip offered to look with his ultrasound. 8 years a cast was out in this wrist too tight and I have had prior surgeries for the nerves and DeQ tendons. This was done at Mayo Clinic so the local doc in XXXXXXX seems pretty reluctant to do anything. But again I can not use it so something is wrong. I am tetung to get in to my old hand surgeon but having trouble with that office.

Brief Answer:
Good idea to get the MRI

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it is wise to get the region imaged to look at the status of your previous tendon surgeries as well as subtle arthritic processes in the wrist joint. You can upload the report and films for my review as well.
