Question: Hi tbere. Wondering if i should be concerned about some results of an ultrasound.

Hi there. One month ago i had a medical abortion. 5 days ago i started having pain in my lower abdomen into my lower back. Had an ultrasound yesterday with these findings: there is a hypoechoic avascular filling defect in the fundal edometrium measuring 12mm. There is trace free pelvic fluid in the posterior cul-de-sac. These findings are alarming to me as two weeks ago i had an ultrasound saying that the uterus was empty but a bit of materials in the cervixal canal. I am wondering if the current ultrasound is something to be worried about such as infection

Brief Answer:
Can be due to impending period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The hypoechoic filling defect in endometrium can be due to mild retained products or due to an impending period. The mild free fluid in cul de sac can be due to a mild pelvic inflammation. It is best to consult a gynecologist for proper medicines to tackle the inflammation so that the pain can be controlled. This is not suggestive of anything serious.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Can be chronic inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Presence of fluid in cul de sac indicates a chronic inflammation or ovulation in this cycle. Along with anti inflammatory medicines antibiotics like Doxycycline or minocycline might be needed to tackle this.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Hi there. I went to emerge on monday and was perscribed the doxycycline as wsll as given a shot to help kick start. On wednesday (after two doses of antibiotics) i was still having really uncomfortable lower abdomonal pain and went back to emerge. The doctor there changed my antibiotic to amoxi-clav. My blood work was fine but considering my pain he thougt i should switch over

As he is not an OBGYN or a specialist, i am wondering if i should be staying on the amoxi clav or continuing the doxycycline. I have taken two doses of amoxi clav (last night and this morning)

My concern is that by switching to amoxi clav based on pain persisting, if this will help the imfection or if i need to stay on the doxycyline and eliminate the more harmful or dangerous bacteria that could be in ths uterus.
Please let me know your advice

Thanks,

XXXX

Brief Answer:
Doxycycline will be better choice.

Detailed Answer:
Doxycycline is the treatment of choice for uterine infections.
Taking amoxy clav will not help you much. The antibiotic will take 5-7 days to decrease the pain. Anti inflammatory pain killers will also help.
Regards.
