Question: Hello Doctor,
I am two months pregnant and recently underwent blood and urine routine tests. Most of the test results are under the reference range, but under chemical test of urine my leucocytes esterase is shown a 2+ value, while under the microscopic test my pus cells are ranging from 15-20 hpf and epithelial cells from 3-4 hpf. I am really worried about this and I even feel urinating several times anytime during a day and many a times observed in the night. But, my regular interval of urination is around 1 and half hours average in a day. One more thing I often feel a bearable pain near the abdominal part and feel little heavy stomach. Can you please give suggest some guidance and consultation over this?

Brief Answer:
UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM.
Firstly your reports which you have attached are password protected. so can't view them.
But from the symptoms and description that you furnished , it indicates that you are suffering from urinary tract infection. Increased frequency of urine and urgency with 15-20 hpf pus cells in urine confirms the diagnosis.
As you are pregnant, the safest antibiotic would be TAB NITROFURANTOIN 100mg thrice a day for 7 days and then a repeat urine culture to confirm clearance of infection.
But after negative urine culture you still have to be on 100mg nitrofurantoin daily till term to prevent any asymptomatic bacteriuria which can inadvertently cause early onset or preteen labour if not treated early.
I hope i have answered you query,
regards

Brief Answer:
UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through all the reports and yes urinalysis indicates that you have UTI and that should be treated with nitrofurantoin. You may however get a urine culture also done to isolate the organism which is most likely to be E.COLI.
The other test reports are normal including the sugar levels.
Complete blood count shows increased lymphocytes which is natural for an infection.
Please increase your water intake to allow early flushing out of infection.
Regards
