What Dosage Of Disulfiram Will Show Up In The Blood Test?
I have taken 3 one each day and had a blood test today
It can be detected
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing through HCM.
Disulfiram inhibits the enzyme for the metabolism of alcohol. Metabolism of disulfiram is complicated, because of its high lipid solubility.
Disulfiram is widely distributed and accumulated in various fat depots. Disulfiram is rapidly metabolised to diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC), which is partly excreted as carbon disulfide in the expired air and is partly metabolised in the liver to Me-DDC. Me-DDC is metabolised further to the active metabolite Me-DTC (diethyl-thiocarbaminic acid methyl ester).
The plasma half-life for Me-DTC is about ten hours, so it can be detected in the blood, but in three days the steady state plasma level will not be achieved so it may be difficult to detect. SO, it depends upon the metabolism of disulfiram. You may require higher dosage for detection in blood. It can be detected by measuring the carbon disulfide in breathing by breath analyzer.
Usual dosage of Disulfiram is,
Initial dosage: Four 200mg tablets (800mg) daily for 2-3 days.
Maintenance dose: Reduce by 200mg daily until a daily dose of 100-200mg is
attained.
I am not sure of it's detection in blood. DO not change the dosage of disulfiram on your own, visit your prescribing doctor for change in dosage and follow his advice.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have further query then I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health.
Initial dosage for 3 days
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.
I have said that I can not say correctly but the initial dose of 4 tablets of 200 mg for 3 days will give positive result on 4th day but if you will take 200 mg once a day for a week then It can also give positive results.
There are high chances for it's detection.
Hope this will help you.
If you do not have further question then close the detection and rate the answer. Wish you good health.
