Adderall XR 20 is an amphetamine mixed salt which is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity deficit and narcolepsy. The salts are prepared in a special proportion and are designed to be released slowly.
The capsule is designed to effect the slow release of the salts in a proportion that is physiologically acceptable by the body. Intake of the drug without the capsule might cause excessive amounts of the drug in the body that could lead to side effects.
Intake of the empty capsule has nothing on the physiology of the body and you should have no problem in chewing just a capsule as it can not cause an obstruction in the digestive tract.
