Brief Answer:
a delusional disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

Morgellons disease is a condition in which person has the delusional belief that he/she is infested with disease-causing agents described as things like insects, parasites, hairs or fibers, while in reality no such things are present.

It is usually a delusional disorder when there are real skin lesions.

Usually, the patients are middle aged females and respond well to antipsychotic drugs.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

my mind is causing A lesion to erupt from my skin? I must have a hundred of them!!! do you recommended treatment? meds from the psychiatrist standpoint? have you had patients come to thinking they have Morgellons? I'm going to go nuts if to keep wearing a jacket pants in Florida. will meds alone stop the lesions and its not contagious right?

Brief Answer:
drug treatment indicated, not contagious.

Detailed Answer:
If there are eruptions on your body, it must be some skin disease. The thoughts in mind would not cause lesions to erupt.

However, some people link there skin lesions to parasitic infestation.

Yes I would definitely recommend medication if the problem is interfering with your activities of daily living.
Drugs like risperidone work to a great extent in such cases.

I see patients with similar complaints every now and then in my OPD. Most are the referrals from dermatologists.

I remember one patient which scratched his skin over whole body in the belief that he would pluck out all the parasites from beneath his skin. He did well on risperidone.

Medicines will break the delusional belief.
This is not contagious for sure.

I would advise you to consult your local psychiatrist.

Hope to have addressed your concerns satisfactorily.

Take care.
Thanks.
