Small solitary hyperintense lesion in the subcortical white matter of left temporal lobe. Nonspecific in appearance. This may represent changes secondary to migraines.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Lesion in brain is not due to car accident

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. The MRI finding shows a small area in the left temporal lobe white matter that is having an appearance that might be linked to either migraine headaches or minimal degenerative change and is usually a common finding in old age.

2. This is not due to your car accident and not a serious concern.

3. Please do not get worried about this finding if you do not have any significant neurological symptoms other than migraine.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

I only started getting headaches after the accident. 4 months ago. I am having headaches.sleep disturbance. Nausea. Emotional, depression. I was diagnosed with concussion syndrome. I'm on meds for headaches, and for sleeping. I am concerned the lesion is due to my head injury.

Brief Answer:
Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. If this was connected to your injury 4 months back then something would have been visible in the area if you got a CT scan done immediately after the accident.

2. I can have a look at any previous CT scan done at that time. In the absence of any findings in your first CT scan I am certain that this lesion has nothing to do with your injury.

3. In my experience, I regularly see such small hyperintense areas in the MRI scans of my patients and often they are present with out any apparent reason and therefore categorized as non specific as you radiologist has put it.

4. Your symptoms are likely to be due to the concussion injury. Emotional changes, mild depressive episodes and sleep disturbances can be associated to concussion syndrome.

5. Some patients recover from such symptoms under a month while rarely people might find it difficult to deal with their emotions for over 6 months. People who have had concussion injury in the past have a longer duration of recovery than anyone who has experienced the first concussion episode. Please avoid activities which cause a physical or mental strain and this will help you towards a faster recovery.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (15 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Hopefully symptoms should improve over next couple of months

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. In my opinion let us give some more time to allow you complete recovery from the concussion injury.

2. Please keep a close watch on any increase or worsening of symptoms. Try to stay stress free and also keep away from strenuous physical activities which might worsen your symptoms. Sitting at the computer for long hours might also cause headaches associated with strain and delay recovery.

3. Hopefully your symptoms should improve over next couple of months with complete recovery. Should you have worsening and new symptoms over the next six months then a follow up MRI is advised towards the end of this year.

Wishing you a quick recovery
