Brief Answer:
Assessment of sound box technique

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Mucosal wave is a test performed to assess the function of vocal folds / sound box in the larynx. When we talk our vocal cord vibrate and that vibration lead to generating a wave measuring of which doctors and otorhinolaryngologists can sort out the pathology of the vocal folds.

There are different techniques to measure mucosal waves like electroglottography (EGG), photoglottography (PGG), and ultrasound and visualization techniques that include videokymography (VKG), stroboscopy, and high-speed digital imaging (HSDI).

Talk to your otorhinolaryngologist and let them decide what is best for you.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

I had video stroboscopy and Dr said he could see no mucosal wave. I have been prescribed speech therapy and am wondering is this going to help my hoarseness as I have been hoarse for 16 months.

Brief Answer:
Needs compliant speech therapy

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

As i mentioned compromise mucosal wave is easily detected by stroboscopy but more important is knowing what causing this hoarsenss as there are thousand of causes. Advising speech therapy makes the cause likely neurological where recurrent laryngeal nerve a part of vagus nerve is damaged which elads to this hoarseness.

Stay compliant to speech therapy and hope for the best. Its your doctors who are in a better shape to tell the odds and expected time frame of recovery.

I hope it helps.
