Question: What is normal ranger of creatine levels in women?
Brief Answer:
see below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The normal range of serum creatinine in women is 0.5-1mg/dl or 45-90micromol/L.
please correlate with your report in which unit it is expressed.
Hope I have answered your query .If any further queries are there I would love to help.

They said its greater than 90
Brief Answer:
more than the upper limit
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If they are saying it is more then 90 then I guess they are using micromol/L unit to express it.
I would suggest you to reconsult them and confirm which unit they are using to express the value and also to ask exact value. They are not supposed to tell more than some number. They should give exact figure. More then 90 means it can be 91 or 110 or even more. So it is difficult to tell the severity.
Severity also depends on age and other associated diseases.
Since it is more than the upper limit of normal range I would suggest you to consult a Nephrologist to rule out causes of raised creatinine and further treatment.
Hope I have been helpful .

Does this mean problem with kidney?
Brief Answer:
yes it means kidney problem may be there
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There are many kidney diseases which cause raise in creatinine levels. Raise in creatinine level above normal range means there is problem with kidney function.
The severity depends on
-exact value of creatinine
-other associated diseases like diabetes and hypertension
-urine and blood examination values
-abdominal scan etc.
So I suggest you to consult a nephrologist to diagnose the cause because many are mild and self limiting.
Below are few common causes of raise in creatinine
-dehydration, high fever,
-chemotherapy drugs
-infection
-kidney stones
- diabetes and hypertension etc
Treatment depends on cause.
Hope I have answered your query .

Brief Answer:
could be age related
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It may be due to age induced. As age progresses the kidney function reduces. This process is accelerated in presence of sugar and high BP . Thought it may be under control still it damages kidney which is called diabetic and hypertensive nephropathy.
To know the functioning capacity of kidney and further management you need to consult a nephrologist.
Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.

Would it b renal failure?
Brief Answer:
not exactly renal failure
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Kidney function is comprised but not fully gone into renal failure.
But exactly may be told after getting exact value of creatinine and confirming the cause and when renal function test is done.
To say it is going into renal failure urine output should drastically decrease from regular times.
In renal function test the percentage of kidney functioning may be known. This will help in further management.
Hope I have answered your query .

We hav noticed that she gets swollen ankles.
Wat would b regarded as renal failure? Creatine being high is a sign right? The hospital did not giv a reading just said greater than 90
Wat would b regarded as renal failure? Creatine being high is a sign right? The hospital did not giv a reading just said greater than 90
Brief Answer:
swollen ankles is a sign
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic .
Yes swollen ankles is a sign of progression to renal failure. She needs to be started on anti odema measures . Though it indicates start of renal failure but still it may be controlled.
But how much kidney is functioning need to be diagnosed by kidney function test so that the outcome may be told by a nephrologist.
Hope I have answered your query .

Fot this do bun and gfr value need to be high too?
Brief Answer:
see the below answer
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
To say the renal failure has began all/or anyone of underlying abnormality must be seen
-GFR less then 90ml/min/1.73m2
-raised creatinine more then 90micromole/L
-raised BUN :creatinine ratio more then 20:1
-raised BUN more then 20mg/dl
-raised blood potassium level
-metabolic acidosis
-raised urine protein level
if any one of this is there then patient has moved to beginning of renal failure. Depending on level of GFR decrease the renal failure is classified into stages. GFR is only entity which decreases in renal failure. This indicates the function of kidney.
To know exact how much percentage of kidney is working DTPA/MAG3 nuclear scan may be done.
Hope I have answered your query .

I think the gfr was 60? I will find out other results.
Would she then require dialysis?
Would she then require dialysis?
Brief Answer:
see below answer
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
GFR 60 means it is mild decrease and considered as stage 2 renal failure.
If such a patient comes to me I usually don't prefer doing dialysis. As dialysis is reserved as last resort before transplant and for stage 5 renal failure with GFR less then 30.
But the decision of dialysis would be taken after clinically examining the patient and seeing all her reports and nuclear scan report .

So is kidney failure serious? I think egfr was less than 60. They said the range for somethin was between 60-120 what could that be? I didnt quite get the name
Brief Answer:
need correct reports
Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
Its very difficult to comment on anything unless you give me the exact values. As less than 60 GFR could be anything from 0-59. Hope you got my point. With only one or two values it is difficult to comment on seriousness
So it will be very much helpful if you get the exact values like a copy or snap of the reports and send me by uploading in the query page or can mail me to YYYY@YYYY with subject ATTN:Dr Deepika Patil. Please inform me by writing here that you have uploaded or mailed the reports.

I think they said 59. But the creatine 1 year ago was normal ?
Brief Answer:
unlikely to be very serious
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If GFR is 59 means it falls under stage 2 renal failure. Usually it may be managed with medical line without dialysis and is not so serious condition unless it degrades further with treatment.
One year is a long time. Though that time creatinine was normal it may change to any extent in this period.
Hope I have been helpful .

Very helpful. For kudney failure would dialysis b only option ?
Brief Answer:
not always
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Kidney failure is a term used when kidney fails to do its function normally. It is divided into stages depending upon criterias like urine output, creatinine level , GFR etc.
Dialysis is last but one option left for treating kidney failure. Last option is kidney transplant.
Dialysis is usually done in stage 5 renal failure or early stages which don't respond to medical treatment. Initially medical treatment may be given.
Hope I have been helpful .

Brief Answer:
usually decreases
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Usually in renal failure urination frequency and amount decreases depending upon stage of failure.
If it is normal then it may indicate good sign. But it should be always measured adequately total amount of urine passed in 24hrs .
