What Is The Best Procedure And Precautions To Undergo Contrast MRI For A Small Syrinx In Spine Being On Hypothyroid & Hypertension Medication?
Thank you for posting your query.
It is safe to undergo contrast MRI for cervical spine as the contrast dose injected would be approximately just 10ml. Since you would be fasting for at least 6hrs for the contrast study it is advisable to skip the morning dose of your antidiabetic drugs. Rest drugs for your hypertension and thyroid can be continued.
However it is advisable to get your serum creatinine levels checked just to know the status of your kidney function. If it in normal limits nothing to worry and hydrate yourself well by drinking good amount of water 4hrs prior to scan and after the scan is done. This should take care of it. MRI contrast agents are very safe otherwise.
