Brief Answer:
No worries, life style changes, drugs, see gastroenterologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I do think you need a further evaluation and proper care. I am afraid you might actually have another condition, associated with the gastritis. This is gastroesophagal reflux disease, which involves gastric juice leaving the stomach back to the esophagus and at times mouth with accompanying change in taste of saliva in some people. The rib cage symptoms and classical back pain are compatible with disease.

It is however advisable to get a fibroscopy, done by a gastroenterologist to evaluate the intensity of any gastric ulcers or erosions you might have. This is important for not only images are seen ,but small samples are taken for analysis. The treatment course and drug type also depends on the results of this exam.

It might be interesting for you now to adopt some life style changes. Avoiding spicy foods, late meals, acidic foods, caffeine containe foods like cocacola, could be helpful. Raising the head of your bed by about 5cm could help reduce reflux. Drugs called antacids and proton pump inhibitors are very effective in treating both gastritis and reflux. Eradication of the germ responsible for gastric ulcers, called Hrlicobacter Pylori might also be required. These are over the counter and you could get them as you book an appointment with the gastroenterologist.

This is important as from his clinical review and exams, the drug associations and duration of treatment, which could take six to eight weeks in some people could determined.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
