What Is The Cause And Treatment For Genital Herpes?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: My husband & I both had blood tests prior to getting married 5 years ago to check for venereal diseases etc & both came back saying neither of us had anything. Last week he noticed sores on his penis and today they called with results- genital herpes. I have been 100% faithful and I really believe he has been as well. Is it possible to get genital herpes if my father in law has oral herpes and maybe touched it and then something like a remote control - then my husband touches that and then later masterbates? Does the herpes virus live outside of the body for long? Also could he have gotten herpes from a lap dance at a bachelor party? I'm just trying to find out if it's possible to get this STD from anything other than being unfaithful. I know there are incidences all of the time where a person believes their partner is faithful when they are not- but he's not that type of person and we are in a very loving and happy relationship. Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
Genital herpes is only transmitted through intimate contact

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

Genital Herpes is an STD.
Most common route of transmission of herpes is through close/intimate contact i.e direct skin to skin, with an infected sexual partner e.g receptive peno-vaginal or oral contact.
Transmission through fomites is really not possible because herpes virus does not survive for more than a few seconds on dried surfaces.
Risk of transmission is more if there are active sores of herpes.
Regarding risk of transmission through the type of sexual contact that he might have had at bachelor party, it is a possibility provided it also involved direct/intimate contact i.e peno-vaginal or receptive oral sex.
