Brief Answer:
Creatinine levels are definitely hight

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM!

This is Dr. Sridhar and I shall be answering your question.

Well, the normal levels of Creatinine in our body should be in the range of 0.8 - 1.6 mg/dL (milligrams/decilitre). As per what you have written, your creatinine levels are alarmingly high and definitely need further investigations to find out the cause.

First of all, I'd suggest you to get the test re-done and confirm whether it is indeed this high or it was due to an error.

Secondly, I want you to know some common causes of high creatinine levels.

Since your creatinine levels are so high, it points more towards kidney failure and you need urgent attention. Since you also have a history of backache, it looks likely related to your kidneys.

Another possible cause in this season (summer) is due to dehydration. Decreased water intake, loose stools, excessive vomiting may cause an increase in your creatinine levels.

There are various causes which might cause a decreased renal (kidney) function such as Diabetic Nephropthy, Kindey stones, High blood pressure etc.

As I've mentioned below, please immediately re-do kidney function tests and see if the same results are seen. If your creatinine levels remain high, please IMMEDIATELY visit a NEPHROLOGIST and get investigated and treated.

Hope your query is answered. If you don't have any queries, you may close the discussion and rate my answer.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Certainly due to kidney failure

Detailed Answer:
Hi again!

Well, from the history if kidney stones that you have given, it most likely is kindey failure.

The kidneys in our body do the basic job of eliminating the toxic waste substance (Urea, Creatinine) . Kidney stones impair the functioning of kidneys by destroying their architecture. This leads to failure of the kidneys to eliminate the wastes of our body, resulting in increased leves of toxins such as Creatinine.

Kidney stones are also known to recur. Since you had past history of kindey stones, there's a good chance that they might have recurred and resulted in this high creatinine.
Hence, my suggestion to you would be to visit a NEPHROLOGIST and a SURGEON and get a few scans done. The cyst in your left kidney and the stones (if any) need urgent intervention. Kindly do them at the earliest.

Hope your query is answered. If you don't have any queries, you may close the discussion and rate my answer.

So this is repairable ?

Answered by Dr. Sridhar Reddy (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Depends upon the grade of damage to kidney.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

One can only say whether this is repairable or not after looking at all your scans and reports and conducting few more tests.
However, in several cases, this condition of cysts in kidney and renal stones is completely curable. There are good medications and surgical options available today which can completely cure the condition.
Removal of renal stones can to a large extent decrease your problems.
In cases where a kidney has become completely functionless, it may be removed as a human is capable of surviving on one kidney after removal of the other.

Also, kidney transplant options are available.

These are all ofcourse the last options. Before that, just by using medications and simple surgical procedures, the problem may very well be solved.

Presently, since your creatinine level is so high, you may require a Dialysis to decrease the toxic contents in your blood.

Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any more doubts. If you don't have any queries, you may close the discussion and rate my answer.

Regards,
Dr. Sridhar
