Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Delayed Cry after birth causes short oxygen supply to the brain. Brain cells depends upon seconds to seconds supply of oxygen. If because of any reason oxygen is not supplied to the brain cells, they immediately start dying.
Brains cells can not be recovered or regenerated.
If the brain cells are damaged after birth due to the delayed cry then these can not be recovered effectively leading to the improper physical and cognitive development of the baby.
It cannot be measured or mapped that how much of the part of brain is damaged during the short supply of oxygen.
Gradually with the growth of the child and due course of time it can only be known that how much physically or functionally the child is effected.
It requires collective effort of physiotherapist, counselors, clinical psychologist, special educators etc to come with some positive improvement in bringing up of such child.
Total recovery like a normal child is not expected from such children. Such children arealways lacking behind to a normal child .
Neurological deficit is variable some times minimal neurological to incapacitating deficit.
Nootropil etc are some drugs with unexplained results.Actually there is no drug to recover or regenerate brain.
Please take the collective help of Physiotherapist, cilincal psychologist and special educators for the possible improvement of your child.
Hope the query is answered.
Please feel free for the further clarification.
thanks
The boy did cry immediately after birth. So that seems to be not the problem to me. He was put on ventilator for some time after birth. The feeding started on the 10th day. He had Jaundice during early months.
The child looks absolutely normal and the only problem appearing is the physical activities.
He has tight muscles in legs when he is awake i.e some kind of Spasm.
Toy holding shifting and walking is still not fully developed.
Other developments appear normal.
What can be done to improve his physical activity and motor skills development.
Vision, hearing speech and social attributes looks more or less stable.
Some doctors have diagnosed this as Delayed Milestone / CP.
So kindly specifically suggest what can be done to improve his motor skills
Can we give him the medicines Nootropil and Baclofen. Are they safe. Will they help.
How do we measure the improvement.
Will he be a normal child and do everything normally.
Regards
PHYSIOTHERPAY for longer period

Hi,
Though as you write that there was no delay in cry but the history shows the child was put on ventilator after birth. It means the child had some severe respiratory problem at the time of birth leading to all such complication (delayed slow development and spasticity) the child is facing.
I do agree with the diagnosis made by your pediatrician.
Beclofen is good muscle relaxant drugs, helps in releasing the muscular spasm with little drowsiness other wise quite safe.
For the physical activity and other motor skill development like walking, bathing, toilet training, writing, eating, wearing clothes etc and other day to day life activities to be helped by proper continuous prolonged physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy is the center of collective improvement programme for such children.
Social development etc to be manged with counselors, clinical pshychologist special educators etc.
Normal development like (mental, physical, and social) should not be expected and compared with any other child who has not undergone such neurological insult at such a tendor age.
How ever no body knows that how brilliant and useful to the society will be this child in his future life.
He may come out with something extraordinary in any specific field of the society and you will be the proud father.
Hope for the speedy recovery of your child.
Thanks
