What Is The Difference Between Glucosamine Chonroitin And Glucosamine Sulfate?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: Yes, thanks. I have been taking glucosamine chondroitin twice daily for a couple of weeks. The pill is so big I have trouble swallowing it so I bought one in capsules. It turned out it was glucosamine sulfate instead of glucosamine chondroiton. Shall I just return it or can I use it? The purpose in the first place is that I am 73 and have begun to have some joint and ligament pain. The pain has been reduced recently but I don't know what the glucosamine sulfate is compared to the other.

Brief Answer:
Can use glucosamine sulfate in place of Glucosamine chonroitin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query and wishing you Happy and prosperous new year.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you want to know difference between glucosamine chonroitin and glucosamine sulfate. Glucosamine chonroitin is a combination of both glucosamine and chonroitin while glucosamine sulfate has only one ingredient i.e. glucosamine. Both has same effects. The combination of chondroitin and glucosamine or glucosamine alone is used to aid in maintaining healthy joints. It is also used as a nutritional supplement in people with osteoarthritis or other inflammatory joint disorders. So you can use glucosamine sulfate in place of Glucosamine chonroitin as both has similar effect but Glucosamine chonroitin will be slightly more effective than glucosamine alone.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
