What Is The Difference Between Parkinson's Disease And Parkinsonism?
Read below.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand our concern.
Parkinsonism is a term used for a group of symptoms such as tremor, slow movements and rigidity. It is called Parkinsonism because they are most commonly found in Parkinson’s disease (PD), however they can at times be also due to other causes. So the difference is that while PD always shows parkinsonism, parkinsonism is not always due to PD.
One other cause of parkinsonism may indeed be the use of certain drugs. Most common drugs which cause parkinsonism are antipsychotics, some calcium channel blockers, some antiemetics etc. Tricyclic antidepressants as a class on the other hand are not commonly associated with causing parkinsonism, so I wouldn’t be so sure about that being the cause, although it would be better to know the precise medication which was used.
I remain at your disposal for other questions.
